What a fun book. Cycling around South America appears to be so crazy, till you read about people who have actually done it.In this book, you join a couple, Laura and Patty (known as Patrick "the handsome" in some circles), a mainstream couple with jobs at London, who decided to break away and try something new. Against friends advices (saying it is unsafe) and the craziness of it (sleeping in tents with wild animals around), they decide to go for it and travel the world. It's a normal people doing crazy things that in the end appear to be normal type of book experience.
As the book covers their journey, Laura puts the places they visit into historical context and spices up the story with Patty's perspective on how things looked from the other side. This results in a rich storytelling for the reader, who receives both Laura's real time perspective and the surrounding context.
This story makes you want to hit the road and do some serious traveling. I personally do not have the bottom for 15 months on a saddle, but maybe others will.

What an amazing trip! I stand in awe of you both.
An excellent read, well written and quite an adventure.
I originally bought this book because one of those mentioned was a friend of mine, and I was glad I did. As someone who cycles a lot but would never undertake such an adventure, I wound Laura's honest description of their adventures very enjoyable.
This is an interesting tale of a couple’s bicycling trip around South America. I probably wouldn’t have picked this up if it hadn’t been part of a book club, but I enjoyed it.
